Haley was born and raised in northern Vermont. As a kid, she chased her brother down mountains on skis, made art from driftwood and pressed flowers, and ate sun-warmed blueberries by the handful. Aaron grew up in Austin, Texas, with a few years in Los Angeles, New York City, and Paris in between. He played soccer in hundred-degree heat, made music and trouble with friends, and ate thousands of breakfast tacos.

Haley and Aaron met at Wesleyan University. They were introduced by Alex—Haley’s fellow Vermonter and Aaron’s ultimate frisbee teammate—and started dating in the spring of 2012. Aaron had a questionable mustache, and Haley danced six days a week. They still found time to ramble through the ravines and orchards of central Connecticut.

That summer, Haley and Aaron went to Vermont together. They sailed Lake Champlain by moonlight with Haley's family, and Aaron’s great-aunt Margot proclaimed Haley a "useful girl." They shared the swimming holes of their childhood—Bristol Falls, and the Chilly Water behind Papa Neddy’s house.

After Wesleyan, Aaron and Haley both made their way to the San Francisco Bay Area. They spent the next few years living out some early-20s California dreams. Bikes were crashed and stolen and returned, beaches and lakes discovered, bars closed down, friends arrived and friends left. They cooked together and made up games and went to yard sales.

They traveled to the Marin County Fair, to Yelapa in Jalisco, Mexico, and took a train tour of Japan. They danced to R&B in Oakland, two-stepped in Austin, and swayed to Funktopus at the Wellfleet Harbor.

Eventually, Aaron moved to Palo Alto to attend Stanford Law School, while Haley helped build Stripe from 300 to more than 3,000 employees. They continued to support each other through work and school—Aaron’s triumphant return to suburban garage rock and Haley’s adventures in quilting and pottery. Aaron bought a friend’s silver prius—“Pigeon”—and drove it to Los Angeles for a clerkship with a federal judge. Haley held onto their apartment in Oakland and made monthly trips south to visit and explore SoCal.

During the pandemic, they both returned to their childhood homes and schemed their next adventures. This led to a shared “sabbatical” to the Nicoya Peninsula of Costa Rica, autumn on the Cape, and a road trip through the Eastern United States.

Haley and Aaron are back in Oakland and live together in a sunny apartment near the rose garden. They proposed to each other in the Berkeley hills overlooking Lake Anza. Haley has a senior role on the People team at a new startup, and Aaron practices environmental law for the County of Santa Clara. They can’t wait to celebrate their marriage with friends and family in the Green Mountain State!
